LinkedIn and Customized ChatGPT

We can all use a little help with our writing, especially when posting to LinkedIn. And now with AI, it gets even easier to get help.

Customized GPTs allow anyone to customize ChatGPT to do a specific task. My friend Frank Prendergast has taken the time and effort to create a customized GPT called the LI Post Improver.

It is simple in its execution. You write a post in your own words, warts and all. You then visit Frank's custom GPT by going to this link: https://chatgpt.com/g/g-M33hwluFH-li-post-improver

Then, cut and paste your post into the chat window, click the big button that says "Improve my post," and a few seconds later, the GPT engine provides in-depth feedback on how you can improve the post.

The Secret of a Garbage Draft

When writing, we often get caught up in writing the perfect post using perfect words. This attempt at perfection holds many people back.

Instead, for me and my team, we use the Garbage Draft approach.

When you begin writing, tell yourself that you are writing garbage. You expect it to be garbage, and if anyone were to read it, you would know they thought it was garbage.

Once you write a garbage draft, you can hand it to someone for editing without any fear of judgment. After all, you and the editor both know it's garbage.

This little hack frees the mind from perfection, allowing the creative juices to flow without the voices in our heads telling us we aren't good enough.

With Frank's handy custom AI bot, we can now hand off our garbage draft to ChatGPT, and it does an amazing job of making us sound so much better.

Enhance Not Replace

By making the initial effort in our writing, we ensure that our voice, ideas, and tone are present. When blindly using an AI tool to write for us, much of this is lost in the translation.

Recently I was working on a project for my work, having crafted an outline for a presentation. The work was 100% mine without any input from an AI bot.

But I then presented my finished outline and work to Claude, another AI tool. I asked its opinion about my work and if it had any suggestions on how to improve or modify it.

While it was complimentary about my initial effort, it suggested a change in the order in which I presented my material, explaining the impact of the change.

It didn't change my content, but opened my eyes to another way of presenting. I was thrilled by the new insights it provided while maintaining my original content.

Gap Analysis

Sometimes, in our writing, it isn't about what or how we said something, but instead about what we didn't say.

I have often used ChatGPT to analyze my writing for flawed logic, implied assumptions, and unintended bias. I'm not asking it to write something for me but to identify something I didn't write or an unintended meaning. This extra 'pair of eyes' can be extremely helpful in keeping our focus on our writing and avoiding unintended meaning or offense.

Conclusion

We each have a story to tell, an idea to share, and insights to contribute. Our own fears of writing can hold us back, worrying that we will be judged for our flaws.

Now, using a tool like the LI Prost Improver, you can participate in the conversation feeling confident.
