The startup recently inked a multiyear licensing deal with Politico's parent company Axel Springer. These deals are key to OpenAI's future as it's balancing the need for updated, accurate data to build its models with growing scrutiny about where that data is sourced from.
But one of the companies it had been in talks with, The New York Times, sued OpenAI and Microsoft for using the publication's articles without permission. If the Times wins the case, OpenAI may not only owe billions of dollars, but could also be forced to destroy any of its training data that includes work from the Times, a costly and complicated task.

1 年So here’s a thought. OpenAI has to pay the Times for its content. BUT what about OpenAI risk relating to the bias and fake news that exists today across the board?? It is conundrum because perspective shifts. What do you want the AI to learn? The models aren’t clean; negates itself. How do we eliminate THAT bias?? In my world, shit in, shit out. That said, this is a most exciting revolution since internet addresses were shared at the end of news casts! It calls to question data vs entertainment. I would think OpenAI should just have a subscription to Times. There should be an AI book of record for citations. Academic papers. News Articles. Social media posts. So many great discussions to consider! And epitaxial graphene???? Shut the front door!
