LinkedIn Connecting
Read a post on here and cannot find it again regarding connecting on LinkedIn the pros and cons, well here is my take on it.
I have been in marketing for over 40 years now, nationally and internationally and must have been successful as am still going strong. Prior to LinkedIn it was all cold calling, hard to do when you lived in WA and had clients in Victoria or Sydney let alone in Germany or the UK. I stumbled upon LinkedIn and think it is the greatest tool out there for my profession, I am not sitting in your reception making it hard for you to ignore and Delete me. I think cold call phone calls are worse, how many do we all receive from charities (there are 54,000 in Australia alone) and they can be pushy and do not take NO for an answer. I donate to some but would need 10 more pay packets to appease all.
I do try to be polite and 99% of my connections have returned this, I do receive the odd no thanks’ which I accept, but we all have a job to do and should appreciate other peoples as well.
I used to feel inferior, sub human when I started out, we had and to some still have the stigma of used car salesmen, eventually I matured and realised without us BDM’s many people would be un-employed, without sales no need for managers, project managers, accountants, etc. as there is no income or work so I see us as the tap, open and everyone has a drink and everyone wins.
Imagine inventing or having a great product yet you cannot market it and be a benefit to many, why invent it in the first place then. I am sure many if not most CEO’s and mangers did not start out at the top, but had to fight their way up. Imagine if no one marketed mobile phones (dread the thought) or burgers.
LinkedIn is the greatest tool I have seen and IF you do not wish to connect DON’T simple as that, I have been very fortunate with it and have made many great clients/friends through it, you can also DELETE.
