Is Linkedin Broken?
Social media has so many users that there needs to be a system of checks and balances to make it work.
There needs to be regulatory guidelines to keep social media working – nobody can disagree with that. Social media also requires basic etiquette that will make these outlets, which include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Linkedin, run in accordance to what they set out to do.
"For Professionals By Professionals"
Linkedin was created so that professionals could network online with like-minded individuals. It allows people to post an abbreviated form of their resumes, their skills, their professional and volunteer involvement and board experiences, and share them with their colleagues and associates. It’s a brilliant idea, really and I can’t tell you how many people I know who have found their dream jobs through Linkedin. After all, it really is about who you know.
However, Linkedin Does Have Its Drawbacks
Linkedin has rules, and like all rules, they have to be enforced somehow. It’s the way they enforce them that is the issue. If 99 people like a post but one person flags it as inappropriate, Linkedin is required to look into it to stay in accordance with their guidelines. They are required to delete the post or the update that offended that one person. Not only does it get deleted but there is no warning, and it still shows up as if it is active to the author.
Questions That Need Answering:
This is understandable if the post is inappropriate or offensive. But what if the post is perfectly in line with all other guidelines, and merely touches the nerve of one person who happened to read it? Should that person have a right to complain, or should they just scroll on by, knowing that their opinion can get someone or their business kicked off the medium.
Is taking action based on a single persons point of view truly beneficial to the community?
Should Linkedin have a team to review these things – and the page owner’s business – before deleting the post?
Many of you know that recently, I’ve been having a problem with the deletion of my updates and posts. They are simply posing the question "Is this appropriate on Linkedin?" and I take a very neutral stance and let the users fill in the blanks.
My company, Bikini Luxe, sells high-end swimwear
As a result of posting pictures of the products that I sell, I’ve suffered some personal attacks, and my posts have been flagged as inappropriate by some.
I have not been given an opportunity to rebut the people who have taken offense, and instead the updates and posts that I had spent hours researching, creating and promoting on social media were deleted without warning or explanation.
What Do You Think?
While I believe that these posts are being deleted to satisfy the minority and not the majority, let’s just pretend that it was the opposite. As the owner of this intellectual property, I should have been, at the very least, been notified that the post was under review before deletion.

Candice, Well done! Keep up the tasteful effort! Many blessings!

8 年What everyone in linkedin has to understand is that business doesn't necessarily mean financial, or industrial, etc. It means someone who makes a living at ANY job and hopefully is not a novice at it but has perfected their trade. This can be in entertainment, modeling, law enforcement, welding, or entrepreneur, CEO of banking, etc. There is no rule to what a job pertains to, so do be offended by a model in a runway dress if you are in engineering because they are not in engineering. Understand and be tolerant of the differences in your trade. Live and let live and if that is not good enough for you, turn your head, eyes, or whatever and don't read the article. You have the right to read anything, but you don't have the right to not be offended in a free society.

8 年Hi, Candice. Thanks for the comments and I hope linked in will listen. I do find myself that a lot of posts are from the job or sales angle but slanted a bit away from making it look obvious. That's the nature of the game a lot are in. I think that its one thing for resenting something as an advert and another because its content upsets those who are puritan in aspect. So the grounds of not taking a piece on are here being confused I think. Linked In need really some element of moderation that involves a sensible human being here!

8 年Fantastic article.I believe that a LinkedIn should enroll willing members in groups five. The groups will all read and review the post. The majority view will be applied to the article status.
