What's new in the world of LinkedIn?
What's new? Well, quite a bit actually.
Nothing drastic and all positive. Almost, all positive.
This includes some new features fighting fake accounts and controlling comments.
Who can have their say? You decide!
As I was preparing a post, yesterday, I came across this new LinkedIn feature - called 'Comment control'.
The feature allows users to restrict comments made to their content.
And although you cannot bar anyone specific, you can limit to choices of anyone, just your connections, or nobody at all.
I can only surmise this feature has been introduced to reduce trolling or inappropriate behaviour.
Feed me!!!
How do you view your feed?
Most relevant content first? Or most recent?
Do you even know how you view it?
Did you know there is a choice?
Actually, there has always been a choice, however the default has always been most relevant content first, meaning each time you went to your feed you'd have to change it, if you wanted to view by recent posts first.
[Although it's LinkedIn which decides what is most relevant to you, I've tried setting to see most recent posts first, thinking that I would much prefer this. How wrong was I!]
You can change your default by visiting your 'Settings & Privacy' page,
and then under 'General preferences', you should find 'Feed preferences'
Initially, I found I couldn't change this, with the 'Feed preferences' link taking me to 'My network' instead.
Glad to say it's working now.
Where the sam-hell did my followers go?!?!?
Have you seen a drop in followers?
Don't worry, it's not necessarily a bad thing, as it could be the LinkedIn Police looking out for you, wanting to protect you. [Yes, I really did just say "the LinkedIn Police looking out for you"!]
This is the blurb from LinkedIn on this matter...
"In order to better support LinkedIn members and contributors with more reliable insights about reach and engagement, inactive accounts including restricted and hibernated accounts will no longer be included in the total number of followers listed on a member’s profile. This change may impact some accounts more than others. The varying impact may be due to several reasons, including but not limited to how long an account has been active, how many connections and followers a member has, places where members have worked or studied, and more."
"Restricted Accounts are member accounts that have been removed for violating the?Professional Community Policies?or the?User Agreement.?Hibernated accounts?are those that members choose to deactivate as an alternative to closing."
Yep, I'm all for removing any dodgy followers (just as long as they really are dodgy!).
You might like this... but then again..!
This is probably the one feature I'm covering, which I'm least excited to talk about.
A few weeks ago LinkedIn started telling me, by providing in my feed, posts which "you might like".
So far, so bad!

I think it's fair to say I have seen nothing I like so far.
The message then changed from "You might like" to "Suggested for you".
And I still didn't like.
Although this seems to be a bit of a fail at the moment, I am honestly open to suggestions from LinkedIn. I just feel there is much work to do here in hitting the right notes.
All-in-all these newbie features are largely positive progress.
