LinkedIn is brilliant!

LinkedIn is brilliant!

No, I am not trying to suck up to LinkedIn.

However, they are brilliant with the direction of the platform. Over the last few months, I have done some research including some supporting polls and I must admit that LinkedIn seems ahead of the curve. Let me explain...

Why do people connect with each other?

In a recent poll, I wanted to find out what the main driver was to connect with someone and guess what?

Content is the biggest driver to connect while networking seems to be the "afterthought". Obviously, this is only a small view of the reality of the reasons to connect.

We all know that you don't have to Connect to see someone's content in your Home Feed. If and when you FOLLOW someone you get to see the content too provided you engage on their posts.

Here is the brilliance of LinkedIn: The introduction of Creator Mode takes the sting out of connecting.

The Content magnet

Digging a little further down into the content elements, I followed up with a poll to find out what draws people in. And no surprise here:

The image is by far the most important component. It is no surprise that the hashtags end up last and barely make the board.

The second part of LinkedIn being brilliant is that they are adding more and more tools to create better visuals (video).

So what do you think: Is LinkedIn moving in the right direction? Where should they focus more

For a change I shall go with what you are saying. When I was your age? Articles were the main source of information on this site. I connected with so many around the world from their writing and some came to me that way as well. The comments sections were active, almost a networking event. Even if my readership is slim to none? The trajectory continues and some articles are found later.

I hope they'll concentrate on #LinkedinGroups as well, as Linkedin has a super system of the groups what could bring some more activity some more quality content.

I don't know about the "brilliant" part, Mic Adam in terms of the Creator mode, but I do know that in 12 months (August 2020 - August 2021) I nearly tripled the number of followers by just changing the connect button to follow (before Creator mode came into being). I went from 12,800 to 35,000 +/- in that time. Someone had suggested changing the buttons, and although I thought it was a weird idea, I figured why not? I do think content is a huge part of it as your poll showed; I know it's why I follow or am connected to others.
