A Linkedin article for Valentine's day

Note: This is Just a rant. I offer no advice in this article, just sharing an honest opinion. If you have the time, I'd love it if you read it.

I hate Valentine's day. I am not even going to hide my frustration with this godforsaken period. And if you're anyone like me, then you hate this day with a rage worthy of biblical proportion.

Valentine's day is not like any other festival that the world celebrates. It's not like Diwali, where the reason behind the festival is the triumph of good over evil. It's not like Christmas, with its wholesome family gathering vibe.?

Valentine's day has become a corporate cash-grab of a day where we were supposed to show appreciation for our better halves/partners-in-crime.

So my dear single and taken friends, join me today on a rant where I humbly share my rage-fueled, angry article and show the world how lonely and desperate I am. Ah, the best of times.

And by the way, yes, this article is for everyone. Single, taken, no looking, not human-looking, vampires, werewolves, extraterrestrials, ancient aliens, lizard-people. If you exist, you can read this article.

Reason 1: The Corporatization of True Love

Maybe I am old-fashioned. Maybe I am dumb. Most probably...I am just dumb, but I think true love is like a journey where two people decide to be with each other because of similar values, respect, appreciation, and lifestyle.

To change this idea of love into something that you have to PROVE to your other half just sounds dodgy to me.?

Think about it, you never have to ask your mom or dad if they love you. As you grow up, you all try to accept each other as you are.?

So why the difference in our romantic relationship??

Be it obligation, expectations, or even basic social etiquette, they can go suck an egg. Valentine's day is just a weird day because it screws with you no matter what you are:

  • If you're in a relationship then it puts an immense amount of pressure and can lead to overthinking and catastrophization on what you should gift to your better half
  • If you are dating someone then it creates this weird dynamic where you don't know if you should make it official with her, propose to her, or just go as you both go along
  • And if you are single, then oh boy does it mess with your head. And I haven't even begun to sneeze on the SURFACE of this shit...

Reason 2: It makes you feel lonely for being single

This day... forces you to think about getting into a relationship even if you don't want to. And hey, some people want to but they also get turned down.?

It sucks hard.

A day where you are made to feel a bit different from the rest if you are not in a relationship. That's exactly what the world needs, doesn't it?

As a kid, Valentine's day used to hit me hard. As an adult, it still hit hard but I have been hit enough times to not give a crap. And just to put it in perspective, imagine if there was a day when the world celebrated the same thing that you lack. Doesn't sound good, does it?

F**k this day

Yeah listen, I am just kidding. If you like this day it is cool. This was just a rant I wrote when I was feeling quite lonely. Though nothing has changed, I know how to tackle my shit now.?

If you are in a relationship, AWESOME. Enjoy, love each other, spend time together, and take each other out. You know, the whole old-school romance and stuff.

If you are single, well take a shot! Get dressed tonight, and go outside, you never know whom you might click with. I am going to take myself to dinner in a 5-star restaurant. Yes I know, the starter will cost me my entire week's pay but what's wrong in treating yourself like the prize you are?

Stay awesome, dear reader. You Hot AF MOFO.

Peace out
