Like the Paranormal Hunters on Cable TV, *Algo Chasers?on?LinkedIn (LI)?are trying to bring their beliefs to life, catch a glimpse of a ghost, predict the future, earn a living, and become?LinkedInFamous. For the most part, their advice is a mix of anecdotal observations, some historical references, armchair analytics, a bit of entertainment, and perhaps occasionally stumbling upon what we think is a phenomenon, a specter of what was, but maybe now isn't. Some Chasers are better than others, but all are, in their way bias experiential historians, prognosticators, or analytical fortune tellers.
Everyone knows catching a ghost or solving a social media platform algorithm could be a crowd-pleaser. What few realize is we are not dealing with the predictable and slow moving algos of yesteryears, the latest?ranking algorithms intrinsically evolve, evade gaming, and transform by design. The Chasers might deduct or find evidence of what was, and that is not necessarily a snapshot of the present or a predictor of the future. Chasers have pushed concepts like "Tag Walls Work," "Use Drive-by Comments like Good Post on everyone stuff, the more, the better," 'Post 3 Times a Day," "Reshare other people's Posts for max exposure," "This is the Day & Time to Post," "Don't Post on Weekends," "Join a POD," and "Put Links in Comments" all ultimately debunked. The inside scope is LinkedIn loves to tease'm and even throws in one-arm bandits and other deceptions in their algorithms to lead the chasers off their trail and feed their obsession. LI's AI even listens for the chatter of Algo Chasers, and if they guessed enough right, the Algorithm triggers another shift. Often the advice is unquestionably followed by many, until the realization that it isn't working, then the Chasers SCREAM:?'LOOK over there, it's is another CHANGE in the ALGORITHM!'?and the frantic pattern continues to the ghoulish and perhaps cruel delight of the LI Data Scientists.?
Here's what doesn't change,?LinkedIn is a business, and?we, the Members, are their core product. The more engaged we are, the more substantial the value we potentially add to the bottom line. One of the best ways for LinkedIn to accomplish its goals is to keep the Members on the platform.?
Basically: Those Members who consistently engage reap the rewards?because it's good for business.

So instead of suffering from FOMO, blaming low reach on the Algo, or trying to conform your content, engagement, and community building to outdated, perhaps unfounded, suggestions from these Chasers, find your balance, create and contribute what you know Members desire: be original, add value, build conversations, create trusted relationships. 3 年In the words of Daniel Roth ?[In]’s Editor in Chief & VP to my recent post featuring this Article: "The engineering blog is, obviously, spot on. But the engineers are always trying to improve their work, which means constant change. What I've sketched out will work, over time, no matter how the algorithms change. If your creation strategy is focused on taking advantage of what you think is a loophole in a particular algorithm, you're at risk when that closes/shifts/changes. But if you build a strong community, the algos become less and less material to your success." 3 年Good of you to put things in perspective about the Algorithm. Agree, it starts with building relationships and sharing valuable content. However, if you don't know sh*y about what is favorited here on LinkedIn, it's like playing a board game without knowing the rules. You get frustrated and will not win a single game. Next to that, some of "us, Algo Chasers" don't have to prove anything, their clients are doing it by getting better results based on the insights they provide. ??
