LinkedIn and AA: More Alike Than You Think? ??
Have you ever noticed the similarities between LinkedIn and a 12-step program like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)?
The parallels are uncanny!
If you've felt the addictive pull of LinkedIn, and the constant need to project the best version of yourself, you might appreciate these steps to break free.
The 12 Steps of Quitting LinkedIn:
1. Admit Powerlessness - Acknowledge that LinkedIn has become unmanageable. You're no longer in control; your notifications are.
2. Believe in a Higher Power - Understand that real-life interactions and connections can restore sanity and your "Open to Work Banner" is garlic for recruiters.
3. Decision to Turn - Make a decision to turn your networking and personal branding over to genuine, face-to-face interactions, personalized notes, phone calls to old peers and honest posts about frustrations, not just HIGHS and LOWS of your soon to be aged out of white collar job.
4. Moral Inventory - Take an honest look at your posts. Are they genuine or just for show? People who don't engage with your posts, agree, but are afraid, are laughing, but wont' show it or just stunned at your honesty, either way, genuine sticks out.
5. Admit Wrongdoing - Confess to a friend about that time you exaggerated your job title or endorsed someone for a skill you've never seen them demonstrate or that your title of "Public Speaker" is strictly because you one time got asked to talk about something and you nearly wet yourself, but here's a photos of you on stage and a new title.
6. Ready for Change - Become entirely ready to remove these defects of character and stop the endless scrolling, and peeping at old peers profiles.

7. Ask for Help - Seek support from friends and family, or join a 'LinkedIn Detox' group.
8. Make a List - Jot down the names of all those you've networked with insincerely, intending to make amends.
9. Make Amends - Reach out, offline, to these individuals and make genuine connections for stopping by their profiles to see if they were still employeed.
10. Continue the Inventory - Routinely check your online habits to ensure you're not falling back into the LinkedIn trap or liking posts that involve attractive people, we see you doing that, you pervert.
11. Seek Enlightenment - Through meditation and reflection, strive for genuine personal and professional growth, not just endorsements or photos of you taking time with your children, because you know, you're "BALANCING"
12. Carry the Message - Share your journey of quitting Addictive LinkedIn and help others find the path to genuine networking.
Let's stop the blind connections without rhyme or reason.
Remember, true good deeds don't always need an audience.
And, a gentle reminder: please update your profile photo if it's more than three years old.
Authenticity starts with showing who you truly are. ????
