LinkedIn to Add Automatic Captions to Native Videos

LinkedIn to Add Automatic Captions to Native Videos

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and to mark the event, LinkedIn has announced a range of new updates to improve accessibility for LinkedIn users.

LinkedIn is adding several features geared toward making the website more inclusive to individuals with accessibility needs, including automatic captions on videos.

LinkedIn is upgrading video content with automatically generated captions and adding several new features to assist people with accessibility needs.

With automatic captions, LinkedIn aims to make videos more accessible to those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or prefer to watch videos with the sound off.

LinkedIn will automatically add captions to videos during the upload process. When you upload a video clip, you’ll have the option to activate automated captions. Auto-captions can be added as soon as they’re available, or you’ll be able to review them before they’re published.

Additionally, LinkedIn is rolling out a high contrast mode to the mobile app. Viewers can turn on high contrast when watching videos on the app, which will adjust the colors to improve accessibility for those with low vision or visual disabilities.

Automatic captions on videos are rolling out in the coming weeks and will be an added benefit for those marketers who are utilizing (and winning) video on LinkedIn . This is yet another way LinkedIn is strongly pushing native videos on the platform, which will keep you here longer, instead of linking to another site.

Does this make you want to upload your videos straight to LinkedIn?

If there are automatic captions, does this suggest I eliminate them when I create my own videos, Trenton Carson -Corporate Video Producer?

As a "not so video tech savvy" person, that has not yet researched or implemented captions for video, I am really glad LinkedIn is making this automatic for native videos Trenton.

Had no idea this was available Trenton, thanks for sharing this news. My big question (naturally) is how easily can these captions be edited? My city's name (Worcester) has been known to be captioned as "Oyster" -- so I like to doublecheck how New England accents are translated!

It makes me feel better about uploading videos straight to LinkedIn Trenton Carson -Corporate Video Producer. This is overdue in my opinion but I appreciate it being late rather than never. The inclusivity trend needs to get more inclusive, faster. I also appreciate the option to approve the captions rather than allowing them to be published without my seeing them first. Thank you for this update.
