LinkedIn 2024 Review and Looking Ahead to 2025


I was at LinkedIn HQ in London last week. The front of the building is closed due to renovation. I’m not going to reveal what's going on; only my clients have been told. However, I can say that the new building will include an awesome amphitheatre.

LinkedIn has been a blessing to me since I started running my business from there in 2021. It now forms a platform that has evolved from job searching. It’s now also a fantastic place to build a community, build your brand and win new business.

1.Lead Generation

After 3 successful years of generating incoming enquiries from LinkedIn, leads are down 60% this year. This is due to saturation on LinkedIn, with more people posting and numbers passing 1 billion. In addition, more 2nd rate LinkedIn coaches and personal branding con artists exaggerate their 6-figure wins and fool people into investing in them.

There’s nothing you can do about this, except write better content, leverage referrals, your website and personal newsletters.


2. Community


While I’ve had a drop in leads, the community here has been referring work to me, from speaking in their membership groups to recommending me to their clients. This is why everyone needs to spend time helping others, giving first and building relationships on LinkedIn. You gain a sense of belonging, and it makes business more enjoyable.

3. Hashtags


I like hashtags, and the 3-5 hashtags have worked well on every post. Now, hashtags are of little to no importance, and I feel this is a wasted opportunity.

4. Spam


Most people complain about being bombarded with bad sales pitches. In San Francisco, LinkedIn told me they were taking it very seriously. Some accounts have been cleaned up, and many fake accounts have been removed. People using automation and pods are finally being suspended. Progress is happening.


5. AI


This is the part of LinkedIn I dislike because it’s so ineffective. My dream would be to teach people working for LinkedIn how to sell better, because ChatGPT isn’t good enough in sales and AI in the LinkedIn DMs isn't realistic.? 6. Vertical videos


In the last few months, vertical videos have been appearing in the feed after a decade of horizontal videos. This is to combat the growth of YouTube and TikTok. Most people here are influencers, but I’d like to see more everyday people in the feed, not just big names.



7. The Future

LinkedIn will continue to be the best place for B2B. I would like to see events at LinkedIn or at a large venue that people can attend. Salesforce has worked wonders bringing people worldwide every September to their Dreamforce events. At least we have UpLift Live in March 2025 run by John Espirian Gus Bhandal and Jeremy Freeman ?

Always appreciate your thoughtful and experienced-based insights Niraj Kapur. Like most everyone I have spoken with about the current state of LinkedIn, the "cons" seem to be outweighing the "pros" these days ... and I mean that in the normal meme sense (Pros and Cons), and also mean it with the intended pun: "Pros" (people who do things right) and the "Cons" (people faking their success and spamming the feed with noise). Appreciate your content, Niraj. Cheers. ??
