Linkedin 101: Read Me First

If you are newly active on Linkedin, you are really in for a treat! Linkedin is my favorite social media platform by far for professionals. There is so much value you are about to discover. I wrote this post more for you about some basic advice for new LI users. Please say hi in the comments or send me a friend request to connect.

1/ Create an amazing profile. If you don’t know how to do this, there are excellent personal branding experts to teach you (see comments) Tip: Don’t underestimate the power of a great photo and tagline.

2/ Connect with the right people. There are so many amazing people on this platform you are going to love it! Start with the Linkedin Top Voices lists released every December.

3/ Stay appropriate. This is a professional platform and while personal storytelling is absolutely accepted, racism or sexism, trolling, harassment, soliciting, selling, and flirting is not cool.

4/ Post regularly and mix in articles, long-form posts, and video. Don’t know what to talk about or camera shy? Follow the numerous video coaches here on Linkedin for excellent tips.

5/ Take it offline. Linkedin is all about relationships. Set up calls with people, connect over coffee, or attend a Linkedinlocal event near you.

6/ Apply for Linkedin Live broadcasting. As of December 2019, this is still a beta feature. Apply here.

7/ Join Groups or create your own. There is no better way to get to know others on Linkedin. I've met some of my favorite people through groups.

8/ Don't grow for the sake of growing. It is all about the quality of your connections, not the quantity. Read more here.
