Linked in Security Breach? Change your password...

Bon Jour, Guten Morgen & Buenas Dias-   This was just sent around to our company email-   I've changed my password.  I hadn't heard anything in media or elsewhere about any breach, but figured better safe than sorry!   Here's what we received:

Security warning on Linkedln / For those having a Linkedln account, Change your password

 Dear colleagues,

The LinkedIn social network faced a recent cyberattack that led to the leakage of more than 117 million accounts including passwords. SCOR’s employees may be impacted by this data leakage.

Although these accounts are personal, their theft may have an indirect negative impact on the company.

This massive theft of account information is generally used for:

  • Sending  SPAM to you and contact information gleamed from the breach.

  • Using compromised passwords to access personal email accounts (or any services) where you may use the same password.

  • Stealing contact information considered non-public (e.g. personal email addresses, phone numbers etc.).

We advise you to change your LinkedIn password as soon as possible. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you of passwords good practices:

Passwords must be complex; containing upper/lower case, digit and special characters (e.g.  , ;@#) with a minimum length of 8 characters

They must be changed on a regular basis and must be kept private (not shared).

The same password should never be used on several websites or accounts. . .

With best regards,

Your IT Support
