Linked Influence: How to Grow Influence in Your LinkedIn Network

Linked Influence: How to Grow Influence in Your LinkedIn Network

Imagine you’re at a typical in-person networking event. Some people hang back, a little nervous and unsure of what to do. Others skip the effort of making a connection and?try to sell their products to other networkers, getting nowhere.

The only people who do well at these events are the ones who jump right into the situation and take control of it. They’re having awesome conversations with all kinds of different people, and making real connections.

Networking on LinkedIn is no different (except that it’s online). It’s all about growing your influence within your network. I’m going to share with you some highly effective networking tips to amp up your LinkedIn learning and help you make.

Giving = Winning

?This simple equation is something I’ve found to be true in all of my experience in LinkedIn marketing. (Well, most of the time at least).

In his book Give and Take, Adam Grant talks about three different types of people in the world:

·? ? ? ? Givers: they’re naturally inclined to give to everyone around them

·? ? ? ? Takers: they take but only give to others when they’re asked

·? ? ? ? Matchers: they give when they’re given to

You could think of a LinkedIn strategy like a football strategy – you plan out what’s going to win you the game. The #1 most effective strategy in my playbook is to be a giver.

So… How Does This Apply to LinkedIn Marketing?

Growing your influence on LinkedIn begins with gaining trust. It’s essential to identify exactly who you want to trust you and who you want on your side. Then the next step is to follow them, and post relevant content, another given in social media marketing.

But while you’re doing all of these things, keep your intention clear: to be a giver, not a taker (or even a matcher). Operating from this standpoint will lead your LinkedIn strategy in a new direction.

4Networking Tips for Gaining Influence on LinkedIn

There’s a set strategy that works for me, and I want to share it with you in four simple steps.

1. Build the right network

Don’t just connect with anyone for any reason. Keep your goal in mind and build a network of people that your target connections and customers want to connect with as well

2. Involve yourself authentically

?People know you should like, share and comment on your prospects’ posts. But don’t do it in a generic way. Add value to their posts with thoughtful content and make sure it makes sense. Align your additions with their goals.? (That means NO copy-and-pasting!)

3. Tag your awesome network

In your comments, tag members of your network that excite the prospect and nurture more connections.

4. Keep it rolling!

Once you’ve gained the trust of a prospect, don’t jump on them to try and make a sale. Instead, keep on giving. Introduce them to someone in your network who would give them something they need.

Final Thoughts on Gaining Linked Influence

Please keep in mind that none of these networking tips will work unless you remember to get to know your network. Learn about them, their needs, and their hopes. Then you’ll be in a better position to be a giver.

Now get out there and become influential in your LinkedIn network!?
