Closing the gender pay gap has stalled. A new study indicates that family leave policies have stymied progress on pay parity. Known as the “motherhood penalty,” researchers found that women who have taken family leave also see their salaries increase at lower rates than men upon return.
Salary ranges can be used to negotiate better pay. California, Washington, and New York have introduced laws requiring companies to include salary ranges in job postings. The new piece of intel can help job seekers both ask for their full worth, and close their own pay gap.
