#No Limits & Why You Need to Innovate Your Marketing

I saw a friend of mine on the TV news last night. He was on the news because he has set himself the challenge of running 5km. Normally that wouldn't make the news, but Mark Ormrod did because he no longer has any legs.

On 24th December 2007 Mark was out on a routine foot patrol with the Royal Marines in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan when he stepped on and triggered an Improvised Explosive Device. He woke up three days later in a UK hospital. Both legs were amputated above the knee and his right arm amputated above the elbow. He was the UK’s first triple amputee to survive the Afghanistan conflict.

So, why am I posted this in here? Isn't this post about business and marketing?

Because despite being told he would never walk again Mark not only learned to walk again but also went on to win 5 Gold Medals at the Invitus Games.

You're probably still wondering, but why are you posting this here...

Because Mark was forced to adapt. Most of us are never put in that position, either personally or in business. So whilst we may make minor adjustments we rarely take brave, decisive action and commit to radical changes. Changes that are uncomfortable but will, ultimately, lead to far greater success.

As we come out of Covid-19 you must understand that we have had change forced upon us. But many are not seeing it as an opportunity to innovate or adapt. You might do things a little bit differently, like using Zoom or working from home, but you have not seen this as a huge opportunity for success.

"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, not the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.” Charles Darwin.

The reality is that our existing and prospective clients now operate in a very different world from 12 months ago. Their needs, pressures, worries and fears are different. So you have an opportunity to:

  • discover what your existing and prospective clients may need in their new world
  • develop new services to match their needs
  • and communicate far more effectively than ever before to improve the effectiveness of your marketing

This is an opportunity that, unfortunately, only the brave few will be willing to grasp. Those that do can achieve amazing results in our brave new world. But for those who do not...

A did a short video for Linked In while I was out doing my 5km run this morning, inspired by Mark:-

Mark is doing the 5km run to raise money for the veterans charity REORG. He had set his fundraising target at £5,000 and was surprised to find that the total had reached £56,000 over one weekend after a video of him falling over as he trained went viral. Thank you Mark Ormrod for your continued inspiration.

What a fantastic story about what to do if life gives you lemons ??… make lemonade! That's really uplifting John McCarthy thanks for sharing and a real hero's journey there with Mark Ormrod MBE I was watching 'American Sniper' last night and was just stunned by the hurdles Chris Kyle had to overcome, only to be gunned down in his prime trying to help others. Let us celebrate life and the opportunities it presents while we can. You know my mantra - #dreamitplanitliveit ????
