Limitless - 6 Lessons for Longevity

Who wants to live longer? Live a happier life? Be more resilient to stress?

If any of these interest you, I highly recommend watching the 6-part series called "Limitless with Chris Hemsworth". You may know Chris from his #disney Avenger's movies as Thor, this series is documentary about 6 personal challenges he under goes in order to live a healthier and longer life. Chris is coached by world renowned scientists in each of the episodes including Peter Attia , Ross Edgley , family and friends.

Challenge 1: Stress-Proof

Chris works on his inner self to mitigate stress while walking on a crane above a skyscraper.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Positive Self Talk
  2. Segmentation - chunk down the task into manageable steps
  3. Make fear or stress your friend
  4. Box breathing
  5. Mindful meditation

Challenge 2: Shock

Chris gets close to the cold with an ice swim in the Arctic

Key Takeaways:

Massive benefits to cold and heat exposure including powering up defense mechanisms and building resilience in your body.

  1. For Cold, aim for 26F or 2-3C
  2. For Heat, aim for 170F or 77C

Challenge 3: Fasting

Chris fasts for 4 days, no food, no coffee.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Reducing calories / food (which is converted to glucose to all cells) allows for "zombie cells" to be destroyed
  2. When food is scarce, ketones help with energy boost and heightened sense of awareness
  3. Repairs damages in healthy cells

Challenge 4: Strength

Chris has to climb a long rope up to a helicopter

Key Takeaways:

Exercise improves immunity, fights infections and diseases

  1. Endurance training - 2 hours a week
  2. Strength training - 3-4 hours a week

Challenge 5: Memory

Chris challenges his brain through a 2-day hike in wilderness to navigate to a specific destination.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Getting out in nature is natural for our bodies, we are not built to be at a desk 9-5, 5 days a week
  2. Navigation and spatial mapping are great exercises that helps strengthen the hippocampus

Challenge 6: Acceptance

Chris is put in an environment which represents the end of his life.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Engage in exercise that is right for your body e.g. dancing + music is a great form of exercise that is accessible and benefits the body and mind
  2. Remembering your memories reduces risk of disease such as dementia
  3. Spend quality time with your loved ones

It would be great if we all could look like "Thor" but this documentary goes deeper than physical strength, it involves the mind, body and emotions in order to conquer these tasks.
