[Limbo to Range Career Log] I'm not sure I'm good at this?

Job #9: Lead to Co-Lead Preschool Teacher

What was my duty?

I was teaching a 4-year-old classroom. The kids were fabulous, their parents were wonderful, and me as a lead teacher, wasn't the best scenario for the kids. Long story short, I got demoted as a co-lead teacher as I wasn't able to protect kids from a child who was yelling and hitting other kids. My morale was rock bottom as on top of the bad news, I was asked to prepare our center to be Early Achievers ready - the very first phase of high quality early learning system in the Washington state that requires maintaining higher standards than the licensing requirements.

On top of that, I got a call from my brother in Korea after that week:

"Hyung nim (?? | meaning older brother in Korean), we received a letter from the military."

What did I learn?

I guess bad things does happen in threes. I also learned that if you do not enjoy what you do, unless you have your gut and passion to improve yourself, especially if you are young, just quit and find another position. It sounds irresponsible yet I think it becomes much valuable experiences for you to realize what you are not good at to explore other options that are out there.

How I applied what I learned from this experience to my current/future roles?

If I did not serve for this position, I don't think I would realize that teaching, coaching, or mentoring adults is my forté not children. I learned the best way for me to learn a new skill or job is by failing those assigned tasks and critique myself what are other ways that I could improve in the future and if not, it is ok to try something else.
