The truth is, we all need a helping hand to get where we want to go.
In other words, you must know how to “play well” with others if you want success.
Charisma and the ability to inspire authentic trust in others are massive factors that will determine your level of success in life and business.
You have to be the kind of person others genuinely like if you want to accomplish your goals quickly and with ease.
Likeability is just as important as more well-known “success skills” such as creativity, persistence, and discipline.
Here are 6 highly effective power phrases that will turn on irresistible charisma and create a very high level of likeability no matter where you are and who you’re with.
Power Phrase #1: Yes and…
When there are others who hold an opposing view and see things differently than you do, resist saying “but”.
For instance, don’t say “But here’s another idea…”
Or “But this needs more research…”
Instead, replace all your “buts” with “yes and”.
So the phrases above become “Yes, and here’s another idea…”
Or “Yes, and this needs more research.”
Notice the difference? “Yes and” connects you to the other person. You become teammates instead of opponents.
This is an awesome way to convey you’ve heard the other person’s point of view and you’re adding to their views not aggressively dismissing what they have to say.
When you do this, you are demonstrating you're a team player.
Others will note this, appreciate it and like you a lot more for it.
Power Phrase #2: Let me help
This is possibly the most important phrase you can ever say in your quest to increase your personal influence and level of likeability.
You can also turn this phrase into a question: how can I help you? This works just as well.
Even if others do not actually take you up on your offer to help and be of service, you will be remembered for your kindness.
Power Phrase #3: “Please” and “Thank you”
Your mother was right. Never forget to say please and thank you.
In today’s hurried, complex environment, you might notice that a lot of people forget about the basic rules of courtesy.
But good manners – like great wine – will never go out of style.
Being polite and courteous at all times is a character trait that will boost your likeability factor by a whole lot.
Remember: there’s no such thing as “too polite.”
Power Phrase #4: I apologize
We’re human and we all make mistakes.
You’ll find that people are surprisingly forgiving – and they’re even willing to forget – when you apologize.
Whatever you do, don’t try to gloss over or cover up a blunder.
No one likes the one who pretends nothing’s wrong when everyone knows an error has occurred.
Owning up to your mistakes is an incredibly irresistible quality.
So, the minute you know you’ve made a mistake, confess and apologize.
Power Phrase #5: I love this
Use this when you see someone do or say something that you sincerely like or admire.
Depending on your personality or the company you’re in, this phrase can be turned into “I really like this” “I’m a big fan “ “This is fantastic”…
These phrases convey enthusiasm and excitement, which are incredibly attractive, likable traits.
The only rule you must follow? Make sure your praise is genuine.
Never show support and enthusiasm for something you don’t believe in.
Power Phrase #6: Tell me about yourself…
This is an awesome opener to a deeper conversation with someone you’ve just met. It’s also a great way to get to know someone you’re already connected to.
You can follow, “Tell me about yourself?” with more specific questions like “Tell me about yourself…where did you grow up?” “Tell me about yourself…what inspires you?”
There are endless iterations you can turn to. Genuinely wanting to get to know and connect with others is a powerful way to show that you truly care and it will create a high level of likeability.
People will remember you for all the right reasons.
Strong partnerships, friendships, and connections will accelerate your success like nothing else can.
Use these Power Phrases to create deep, authentic relationships with everyone around you and they’ll be more than happy to support you and help you achieve your goals and dreams.
And when you have the right people to cheer you on and support you – team members, coaches, influencers, ideal clients, friends, and family – the sky’s the limit.
There’s no telling where you can go and what you can achieve in your life.
