Like what you do and Do what you like! Which one First? ?

Like what you do and Do what you like! Which one First? ?

I have mistakenly advised people to do what they love. To me now this is not a helpful advice. To succeed in life, people must do their outmost in what they are doing whether they like it or not. Once they do well in their current tasks, opportunity will arise for them to choose to do what they love to do.

Jack Ma’s first job was a teacher and translator. Because he was a great translator, he was given the opportunity to tour the US where the sprout of his Alibaba Empire idea took form. He then could opt for what he loves, and that is helping millions of men and women in China through his e-commerce business.

Steve Job’s famous quote is “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.”

Zig Ziglar said “When you do more than you get paid for eventually you'll be paid for more than you do."

Personally, when working as the Community Manager, sometimes I hated it when I had to lead a team doing volunteer work just 2 days after my wedding. I hated it when I had to buy trash pickers and bags myself for very frequent Clean Days. But at that time I was determined to make my every community work day the best day until I could move up my career ladder.

Therefore, whether you like your current job or not, whether you feel you are unfortunate to have unhealthy relationship with your line managers, whether you hate your company… be the best in your assigned task. Then you will meet your passionate path.

Don't settle.Don't be average. Be awesome.

I love the quote of Mr. Zig Ziglar who said when you do more than you get paid for eventually you'll be paid for more than you do. And it is true. I had done when I was with Protek Security company. My first job was Liaison Officer. I did many task beside building customer relation, I also served as recruiter, trainer, problem solver and investigator. The Branch Manager always encouraged to face and solve the problem. He saw my competency then he promoted me to Operations Manager of the company. I kept doing the same thing. Doing more than I paid. Even though I was a Human Resources Manager; but also help many department especially Sale & Marketing. I love the PR and the communication. I met the department head and General Manager to extend my help because I know I am not going to play another important role. Then here I am for what I have prepared in the past. Your writing is alerting me about loving the current task on hand and I do. I do it all the best and I hope I will meet my passionate path very soon. I you have any passionate task that match my knowledge and skill please do not hesitate to let me know. And I will do all the best for the family and the community. Thanks for sharing your thought and thanks for taking time to read my comment in response. Best regards, Chandara Hem
