Dear Readers,

Let me share a bit of my journey with you – not just the highs, but the lows as well, because vulnerability is the bridge to real connection.

Life's Storms.

Like a sailor who learns from the roughest seas, I've learned my greatest lessons during the toughest times. After serving in the military and spending a couple of years in corporate HR, I started my own company, Parachute People Solutions, which I ran successfully for 26 years. As a business we had our storms like any business cycle , we rode them out and came out the other side a lot wiser .

Facing the Pandemic Wave

In 2019, my wife and I decided to move to the UK, seeking new beginnings. As soon as we set our sights on this new adventure, the pandemic struck. Our journey to the UK was fraught with lockdowns and uncertainty, a true test of resilience. We finally arrived in December 2021, but the challenges didn't stop there.

Sitting and watching the world go by during our enforced quarantine in a hotel in Canary Wharf . We had absolutely no idea where we were going to live and work , we were sailing without a compass.

REP Formula

Life is about making choices, and sometimes these choices lead us into storms. I found joy in a new job, I was on Fixed Term contract which unfortunately was not extended due to the downturn in economy . It was a tough blow, but I leaned on my REP formula: retract, evaluate, and plan again. This approach helped me remain afloat during this stormy period and we not out the storm yet .

Launching Plan B Careers

In response to these trials, I launched Plan B Careers. It's been a mix of stormy waters and smooth sailing, typical of any start up. I am on a journey of growth and learning.

Simplifying Life on the Isle of Wight

We are moving to the Isle of Wight, cutting down on expenses and living more simply. My wife's remote job has been our financial lifeline. This shift to simplicity, although challenging, has brought us unexpected peace and clarity.

The path way beside the beach in my home town of Durban . Life is about choices , Live with no regrets and dont play the blame game within yourself.

Solidarity and Community

I want to remind you: You're not alone. We all face our own storms, and often, we assume others have it all figured out. This couldn't be further from the truth. Through this newsletter, 'Don’t Wait – Navigate,' I aim to create a community where we share stories, career ideas, and support each other.

Don't wait or hesitate to navigate.

Looking ahead.

The future is uncertain, but what I know for sure is that drastic action and a steady hand can calm the roughest seas. My goal is to return to full-time work, but for now, it's about keeping the ship steady and moving forward.

Remember, in this vast ocean of life, we're all sailing together. Your story, your struggles, and your victories matter. Let's share, encourage, and navigate these waters as one.

With warmth and solidarity,

Lance Gold
