(Not) like Lieke?

Like all of us I was amazed at Femke Bol sprinting from fourth place to gold in the 4x400 meter mix a few days ago. Yet of couse I also turned to the data to get the full and objective picture. It filled me with fear of history repeating itself on the likes of Lieke Klaver.
Who won the gold?
Look at the data:
Yes, Femke Bol was by far the fastest woman and managed to pull of the seemingly impossible. But look closer. Had Lieke not be the fasted woman in the first of two women ran leg... the scale would have been tipped towards winning being really impossible.

Humility
You probably did not know this. Simply because no one pointed it out, no commentator, no team mate and certainly not Lieke herself. She was too busy applauding Femke for that insane finish, and appreciating all her teammates (including the onesthat couldn't run that final)...
...and doubt
I was hoping her unselfishness, humility and loving kindness would be rewarded in the 400 meters she runs individually. But doubts, nerves or whatever else messes with your head enough seem to have creeped in. At first she stayed put. After the restart she finished 4th in her semi final, and missed the final being the 4th fastest (beyond the frist two in every semi final to qualify for the final.)
Like the likes of Lieke
When I train and coach managers they learn my principle of: catch them doing stuff right (instead of catching and correcting their mistakes). Especially go out of your way to spot the likes of Lieke Klaver , the ones that help your team and you flourish, but could easily be overlooked because their modesty outshines but darkens their value. Spot and like the likes of Lieke, or they might miss out on credits due and never know their true value.
