I don’t remember which show it was, or if it was even a movie.? Recently, I heard the term, “LIKE it or not.”? It stuck in my mind.? For some, it may bring up feedback on social media, and for others it may resonate as a statement about indecision.? It could also imply that regardless of whether you LIKE something or not, that it is occurring.? I want to focus on the third aspect.? Sometimes we may not LIKE something, however that does not mean it is not happening, or we can keep it from happening if we don’t LIKE it (no, I don’t mean give it a thumbs up).? I specifically want to focus on whether you LIKE it or not, you are leaving behind lessons for others to learn from.?
L-Learning??????????????????????????
Learning is a journey!? Every day we are learning.? Some are better at it than others, and some seize the opportunity better than others.? Yes, you may be in school working towards a degree or certification, watching YouTube videos to gain insight into a hobby or a passion, or possibly just working on your craft.? Where are you learning from?? It might surprise you.? You are learning from those in your inner circle, and those on the outside of it.? We are all influenced by small interactions and snippets of information (micro-learning) that we are storing in our minds for a later use or reference.? The people we admire that we pay close attention to, and those we don’t admire that we would rather not interact with.? There is a reason why you are drawn towards someone or if you would rather not collaborate with someone. You learned something about each of them.? LIKE it or not, you see something from both of them to help you be a better person, to be a better you.?
I-Influence?????????????????????????
Influence is continual!? Who are you “hanging” around with? ?I’m not sure if that term is even used anymore.? Who is inside your circle of friends, or as some call it, your circle of influence.? Have you ever heard the term, “Birds of a feather flock together?”? Look around to who is in your group of friends or family?? How are they supporting your goals and dreams?? Are they lifting you up or bringing you down?? It has been said that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.? How is that for influence?? Think about that for a minute (yes, not a second, we are learning here).? Who do you hang around the most?? Who are the 5 people you are around the most? How are they influencing you?? Are you influencing them?? The answer is yes.? It may be a positive or a negative influence, however they are influencing you and you are influencing them.? Did you like what you see?? Are those around you reflecting your goals, dreams, and passions?? Do they align with where you are going, or have they stopped and camped out where they are with no intention of starting again?? LIKE it or not, you are being influenced by those around you.? Do you LIKE it??
K-Keep?????????????????????????????????
Keep going!? Just because you may feel you are in a roadblock (nobody LIKEs being here), you can’t quit.? You must keep going.? Who around you challenges and influences you to keep growing?? Spend more time with them if you can.? Invite them to breakfast or lunch, send them a calendar invite to just talk, or send them a note to let them know how they are influencing you. Part of you keeping your momentum moving forward is to help fuel the momentum for others.? Being positive (some choose to use the term optimistic) is contagious.? Unfortunately, being negative (pessimistic) is also contagious. Which one would you rather be around?? Someone who is consistently positive, or continually negative?? Do you have anyone around you who is negative all the time?? How do you feel when you are around them?? I’m not saying that you need to separate yourself from them, just recognize that the negative influence (micro-learnings) that is being shared has the potential to influence you too.? Keep going!? Yes, you can!!
E-Examples???????????????????????
Examples are all around us. Some for good and some not so good.? We are all learning from both.? When I was younger (longer than I would like to admit) I remember hearing the term, “Monkey see, monkey do.”? It was a reference to that what I did, those around me would see what I did and mimic what they saw.? What kind of example are you for those around you?? Are you someone who is just out for yourself, or are you focused on helping those around you.? Do you do the right thing because it is the right thing, or do you cut corners because you don’t think they matter.? Are you striving to grow and excel, or are you caught in a limbo status, just hovering around where you are at?? What are you drawn to that is making you better?? Who around you can you learn from to help you grow?? Have you let them know the impact you are making on them?? Why not?? What is keeping you from sharing how they are impacting you?? The more you share appreciation and gratitude, the more others will share too.? Be the spark and be the example. Let it be said of you that you promote others, and you are casting a great shadow for others to see.?
All of that even if we don’t LIKE it??? Seriously?? YES!? We are all being influenced by what we see, hear, and watch. We are also influenced by what is going on between our ears, and that comes from what we see, hear, and watch.? LIKE it or not, you are learning both the good and the not so good.? How you respond to what you learn is the key.? Understanding that learning is a journey is very important.? We don’t stop learning.? You might not be in school, but you are learning.? You are continually being influenced by those around you and the situations you face.? How you respond is key.? Keep going!? Don’s stop recognizing that everyone has challenges and how we respond is a representation of who we are.? Good and not so good examples are all around us.? Both influence us in one way or another.? What we need to do is keep the good and drop the not so good.? Nobody is perfect.? We just need to do what we do and keep growing and learning.? Remember, “Monkey see, monkey do.”? Some other monkey may (they are) be watching you.? Give them something good to see for a better you and the influence you have on me.? How do you LIKE that??
