You know what they say: life is a journey, and sometimes you need a good quote to keep you going, and some of them just sticks with you. Whether it's a profound truth or a hilarious quip, the right choice of words can make all the difference. I've collected some of my favourite "words of power" over the years and I'd love to share them with you. These quotes come from various sources, from famous figures to my personal circle of friends.?
- "Discipline is freedom" ~ Jocko Willink. Whether you want to lose weight, learn to play a musical instrument, gain financial freedom etc. - discipline is the most crucial element that must be present to get you to your end goal.
- "You can't wait until life isn't hard anymore before you decide to be happy"- Jane Marczewski. These are compelling words from a girl who did not allow a battle with cancer (which she sadly lost) to dampen her spirit while she was still alive. There are so many things already in your life to be grateful for, and that brings you joy, don't overlook what is already part of your life!
- "There is no company on this planet that will build a bridge in your honour when you die", and "20 years from now, the only people who will remember that you worked late are your kids/family". I believe in two things - there will never be a replacement for hard work, and I want my kids to know me while growing up, not just know of me! Ensure that you constantly try to keep a healthy balance; you will reap the awards from a career perspective and, more importantly, in the relationships with those closest to you.
- "Never live above your means, but live while you are alive". In summary, live responsibly and make some memories along the way when you have the opportunity to do so.
- "Normality is a paved road: It's comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow" ~ Vincent Van Gogh. Venturing outside your comfort zone and putting your hand up to take on a new challenge may make you uncomfortable, but with that comes opportunity and growth.
- "Get the facts, or the facts will get you. And when you get them, get them right, or they will get you wrong" ~ Thomas Fuller (and thank you Andrew). Moral of the story - take enough time to research/prepare and do it well!
- "Lot of noise, zero substance". If you don't have anything meaningful to add or contribute to a meeting or conversation, it is more valuable to keep quiet than to say something just for the sake of saying something.
- "No matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, how you treat other people ultimately tells all. Integrity is everything," and to add, "Love people. Use things. The opposite never works".
- "The grass is always greener where you water it". Attitude is everything!
- "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." ~ Abraham Lincoln.
Consider taking time to reflect on your personal list and consider why each item is significant to you. By reflecting often and refocusing your attention, you can continue to grow and improve in all aspects of your life. Keep pushing forward, and live life to the fullest!
