Like Bitcoin, WiBT is Mooning!

Just like Bitcoin, Women in Blockchain Talks is on the rise!

In November, WeAreTechWomen, powered by BAE Systems, announced the winners of the 2020 TechWomen100 Awards; I was one of them!

.Last week was the awards ceremony led by the wonderful CEO of WeAreTechWoman, Vanessa Valley, and presented by Julia Streets, CEO, Streets Consulting

The event was, unsurprisingly, amazing, and well-executed which always adds to the enjoyment of an event. Outside of having my friends and family attend the event from around the world, and receiving my award, there were two key highlights for me.

The wonderful speech by IT entrepreneur and philanthropist Dame Stephanie Shirley CH and awe-inspiring 13-year-old coder, tech advocate and TechWomen100 winner, Avye Couloute

It highlights, once again, the wealth of learning and information to be given by those who have come before us and those coming into the industry from the younger generation. I am proud!

We, Tech Woman, as a collective have so much to give, so much to do and it wonderful that our efforts are being and were recognised.

I write all the above to not only share my thoughts on the evening but to remind those reading this that many times during your career and life many people will try to define and label you.

Just a few years back, before starting Women in Blockchain Talks, I was (heart) broken by a professional situation. A situation where I was told what I could be, what my worth was, and whom I could become! I was heartbroken because I expected better from those involved and as much as they tried to put me down, belittle my talents, efforts and skills I knew who I was!

It took every essence of my willpower and strength, as well as prayer, to pull myself back from the brink of despair, desperation, and depression. Women in Blockchain Talks and the community I am building around it, helped me do this.

It gave me focus and a purpose to keep going! So, for me, this award recognition is not just about what I have achieved with WiBT in the past 14 months (only!) but what I personally overcame to 'step up' and 'show up' to lead and grow WiBT.

The situation I experienced still pains me, deeply, but it also drove me forward and now I am in a wonderful space of growth! So much so, that Women in Blockchain Talks has been sponsored by the award-winning global PR and Communications company April Six.

I am grateful!

So, to those reading this, celebrate your wins, acknowledge the challenges you go through, and just keep on going!

You just don’t know what is around the corner for you or how your life experiences can add to someone else’s personal and professional growth, as demonstrated by the amazing Dame Stephanie Shirley.

We are all winners! We just have to remember it and act like it!
