The phrase is constantly said, "I know this or that situation, this or that thing as much as I know the back of my hand." But do we truly know the back of our hands? If unknowing to you a photo of the back of your hand was taken, how easily would you recognise that hand? Yes we have seen the back of our hands hundreds, sometimes thousands of times per day. Yet the questions must be asked regarding our own back of hands . Do we really know each follicle of hair? Do we know each blood vessel? Do we know each nook and cranny? The answer undoubtably is no, no we do not know the back of her hand as much as we think we do. It is like "knowing" someone for such a long time and truly not knowing them, not knowing what makes them tick, not knowing what makes them laugh or cry or what truly live inside of them. And until we stop looking at people, things and circumstances superficially and look at them with depth, detail, understanding within them and through them, we will never know them. We will only know them "like the back of our hands".
