Maternal Diet and Gut Bacteria Influence Offspring Immune Development

In a groundbreaking study conducted by the Nutrition, Microbiome and Immunity Group from the LIH Department of Infection & Immunity, researchers discovered that a mother's diet and the composition of her gut bacteria can significantly shape the immune development of her offspring.

The findings, featured as a cover story in the prestigious EMBO Molecular Medicine journal, provide crucial insights into the intricate relationship between diet, gut bacteria, and early-life immune system development.

A new breakthrough in cancer treatment

An international team of researchers, including Prof. Michel Mittelbronn, head of LIH's Luxembourg Centre of Neuropathology Group and the National Centre of Pathology at the LNS - Laboratoire national de santé , has uncovered a key defence mechanism in certain tumours that makes them resistant to treatment.

Rosalind Franklin Society Award bestowed to LIH researcher

In July 2023, kathleen mommaerts , Researcher in the Biospecimen Science Research group at the IBBL, was awarded the Rosalind Franklin Society Award in Science for her article on induced pluripotent stem cells, which was published in the journal “Biopreservation and Biobanking” in February 2022.

CraNE Joint Action: the newest European project in the field of cancer

The CRANE Joint Action is set to make groundbreaking strides in cancer research with the aim of establishing by 2025 an EU Network of National Comprehensive Cancer Centres (CCCs) in every Member State, ensuring that 90% of eligible patients have access to high-quality early detection, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and support.
