Lights, Camera, Job Offer!?

Lights, Camera, Job Offer!?

Ever noticed how job interviews have become like speed dating scenarios? You walk into the room, the interviewer leans in, and the first question starts the countdown — "Tell me about yourself."

And in my past recruitment experience, the majority of job seekers start with a novel, not a pitch.

So, how to nail that question and ensure the next season of your career gets the green light?

If you have 15+ years of job experience, it’s all about the first 10 minutes— the make-or-break zone where the recruiter decides if you're the professional they've been searching for or just another candidate.

Jokes aside, let’s break it down, how to master the “Tell me about yourself” question.

Here is the formula you can follow:

1 - Statement of qualification – how many years of experience in relevant positions and industries?

“I am a Finance Manager with over 15 years of experience in FMCG and retail industry.”

2 - Expand on relevant experience.

I am an expert in Accounting, Budget, Reporting, IFRS, and local reporting.”

3 - Add additional relevant skills or relevant achievements.

In my previous company, I successfully implemented SAP within 3 months.

4 - If it’s a leadership position, how many people, direct, or indirect?

I was managing a team of 5 people, in 3 countries.

5 - Finish with a personal touch or unique value proposition. What makes you energized? What are your strengths? What are your core values?

I am passionate about process improvements, metrics, and figures and working with cross-functional teams.

This is how in just 10 minutes, you'll have the recruiter nodding in agreement, not wondering if they left the stove on at home.

I wish you an impressive next job interview with an even more impressive job offer as a result!

P.S. Are you ready for the interview of a lifetime? I'm here to be the co-producer of your outstanding performance for the 15 core questions that will define your next career chapter.
