Last month, as a bit of a laugh, I registered with an Extras Agency. Yesterday, I got called upon to be in the background of a scene in an upcoming TV Drama.
If you look at my profile photo, you will see the real me...Bald headed and grey beard. Not sure what way I should read this but when I got called into 'Hair & Make-Up' the young lady looked at me, sprinkled a tiny bit of anti-glare dust on my head and said 'You'll do'.
Is that a) Because I am already perfect? or b) I am beyond help?
I will let you make your own mind up. Then in the costumes department the young man looked at what I was wearing, my own T-shirt, Jacket, Boots and Jeans and said "You'll do"
This got me to thinking, If I am lucky enough to not end up on the cutting room floor then the real me could be seen on tv by millions...but do you know what...I don't overly care because EVERY DAY the real me is available to be seen here on LinkedIn by over a BILLION.
Is the real you on show here, or do you hide behind an old photo and a previous incarnation of your working self? When was the last time you updated your profile, back in your University days?
To make this platform work you have to be present and genuine...oh, and active. Absolutely NOTHING will be gained of you just create(d) a profile and leave it lying.

ps. If you get a chance, sign up to be an Extra yourself, I guarantee that you will meet some wonderful people and have a bit of craic whilst getting paid (and fed) for a relatively quiet day! Sorry but due to signing an NDA I cannot tell you what the program was so start guessing. lol

8 个月Nice one, Rodney. Glad you're on board with us luvvies - a bit of lights, camera and 'action' is sheer magic! Agree the craic was usually very good on set, despite the long hours of waiting, and your broader reflection on authentic online presence is compelling. Cheers.
