?? Lightning Safety Tips from Tribalco Rescue's Director of Safety Operations, Antonio!

As part of our Toolbox Safety Talk series, we're focusing on lightning safety this month. Lightning is a dangerous natural force, with approximately 300 people struck each year and an average of 50 deaths annually over the last 30 years. Employers, supervisors, and workers must understand the risks and take precautions to minimize hazards in the workplace.

?? Did you know? Lightning can strike up to 10 miles from any rainfall! ??? Many victims are caught outside because they didn't act promptly or went back outside too soon after a storm passed. Proper planning and safe practices are essential for increasing lightning safety, especially when working outdoors.

? Summer Lightning Alert: Summer months increase the risk of thunderstorms and lightning. Stay vigilant and prepared to ensure your safety during this season.

?? Planning for Lightning on Construction Sites:

  1. Identify safe shelter areas.
  2. Check a weather app before starting the workday.
  3. Review the company's lightning policy and procedures.
  4. Have an emergency plan in place for your work site.
  5. Know where the nearest medical treatment center is located.

??? Lightning: What You Need to Know:

  • No place outside is safe when thunderstorms are in the area!
  • If you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to strike you.
  • When you hear thunder, immediately move to a safe shelter: a substantial building with electricity or plumbing or an enclosed, metal-topped vehicle with windows up.
  • Stay in a safe shelter for at least 30 minutes after hearing the last sound of thunder.

?? Indoor Lightning Safety:

  • Stay off corded phones, computers, and other electrical equipment directly connecting you to electricity.
  • Avoid plumbing, including sinks, baths, and faucets.
  • Stay away from windows and doors and avoid porches.
  • Do not lie on concrete floors or lean against concrete walls.

Stay safe and prepared! ??? Your safety is our top priority.
