Lightness
When I try to explain to people why coaching can be so powerful, I often include the fact that I try to nurture a sense of optimism, lightness, even humor.
Now, our work is often about serious things and serious situations. Business can be tough most of the time. But I find that the weight of this can easily push my clients to feeling stuck.
I don’t see any good alternatives. I’m out of ideas. There are so many negative effects of any action I might take.
And I get that. Sometimes I feel stuck in my own business too.
But then I ground myself that there are ALWAYS alternatives. And we’re not talking about life or death impacts here, just stuff I’d rather avoid.
That’s where lightness comes in. If we imagine that there ARE better options, then that helps us to look for them. It creates a different kind of positive energy for my client, which opens up possibilities.
It doesn’t mean I’m making fun of their situation. We’re still talking about serious stuff. Instead, it’s something we all crave: hope and optimism.
That’s a reason why you can have such a great conversation with your dog. He doesn’t judge you, he doesn’t worry about the details of your situation - he just showers you with love and support.
Which is the energy we all need.
