Yesterday (April 22) was International Mother Earth ?? Day, a significant date that serves to remind the world that we need a shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet. We are at a key moment in the fight against climate change and greenhouse ?? gas emissions must be reduced urgently?? to combat major impacts such as drought, melting ice caps, deforestation and changes in sea levels...??

Everyone has a role to play in making changes to restore our world. With the energy ? transition, shifting to renewables and eliminating our dependence on fossil fuels, which are responsible for 90% of emissions, is a necessity.

At Iberdrola, we are fully committed to this goal. As of today, we have 42,187 MW of operational renewable capacity in the world ???? and we continue to work towards a cleaner future and planet. Because the earth is yours, ours and everyone's. Let's help take care of it!

More renewables than ever!

We have been pioneers in clean energy for decades and at the start of 2024 our green production hit impressive highs in Spain and Portugal ?

Thanks to the investments made in recent years, we reached almost 10,500 GWh of green production in Iberia during the first quarter, 19.4% more than in the same period last year. Elsewhere in the world we also recorded increases in renewable generation in the United Kingdom (+4.3%), Mexico (+5.6%) and the rest of the world (+30.4%).??

Globally we produced 24,000 GWh of renewable energy in the first quarter of 2024 – a record figure –.

We are already 100% emission-free in the United Kingdom, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Romania and Bulgaria. Emission-free production has now reached 92% in Spain. That is why today we are a leader in the energy transition globally.

Renewables around the world ??

Today in our series 'Renewables around the world' we pay a visit to our team in Mexico, where a very creative colleague recently shared some spectacular images of the sunrise at the Hermosillo photovoltaic plant.

This large solar plant located in the northern state of Sonora (Mexico), has a total installed capacity of more than 130 MW and supplies 100% green energy to more than 100,000 families. In addition, it avoids the emission of 96,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and is part of our commitment to renewables in the country. Thank you to our colleagues at Iberdrola Mexico for sharing it!

Green employement ??

Solar panel installers, architects, environmental scientists, recycling coordinators, wind turbine engineers, geologists, project managers, electric vehicle manufacturers – these are just a small subset of the countless jobs connected to the green revolution. But, for renewable energy to be a sustainable part of our lives, we need to ensure it offers both economic growth and climate security.

The International Labour Organisation estimates that the energy transition could create 25 million new jobs by 2030. We talk about the new employment pathways provided by the energy transition in this podcast. Don't miss it!!!
