"THE LIGHTHOUSE"

HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO US?
During this global pandemic has allowed many of us time to reflect on our personal growth.
If I were to ask you if you saw yourself at the top of your field, what would you say?
If you say, “Yes”, you haven’t reached your destination.
Your perception is that you have reached the top, however, you merely have scratched the
surface.
If you say, “No”, again you have not reached your destination.
Is it that quiet voice in your mind telling you you’re not good enough?
We’d hate to admit it and it can become quite complex, but maybe this may shed some light on subject:
You can’t consciously know when you’ve reached your destination?
You won’t be able to see it, due to being present in the moment, your moment of glory.
You will be standing on your destination. You will not see it, others will see it in you.
So now, you’re saying, “That’s great, now what does this have to do with a lighthouse or
anything for that matter.”
Well, a friend and mentor gave me a tidbit of advice:
“Owning your spot in the world, your own horizon.”
Just like a lighthouse, our existence can be a beacon to others, so that they in-turn, reflect or refract onto others.
Some lighthouses still function. Some no longer are in use. Isn’t that what this journey called life is all about? But what is the outcome of a lighthouse.
The lighthouse has two main purposes:
1) To protect ships and people from dangerous shores and conditions
2) And to also guide those that are lost and aid their navigation toward their destination. What are we as humans, programmed to do?
We naturally want to help and protect those we care about.
The lighthouse is the bright beacon of light in a stormy night that guides and protects,
very similar to what we as humans and leaders do. We shine our light onto others to
help inspire, guide, and protect.
The lighthouse is strategically placed on the dangerous coastlines, just as we are
strategically placed into other’s lives. The lighthouse is unaware of its current location, it
just shines its light onto other horizons to guide and protect, it’s unaware of its
significance to others. Just as those of us who arrive at our destinations are unaware, it’s
not until our light shines onto another horizon and that horizon shines its light back as if
it was thanking you for your guidance and protection.
This level of understanding and communication would seem as though it is effortless,
there’s no gimmick, hack, or quick fix, its two lighthouses shedding their light and
experiences on what at times can be a dark, dangerous world.
The lighthouse is built on a solid foundation that stems from: suffering, enjoyment,
experiences good/bad. It stands proud and able to withstand even the most dangerous
of storms as it is designed. It will be that steady beacon of trust, courage, and hope
regardless of the storm. The lighthouse owns its spot on that dangerous horizon and
through standing its ground aids many to find their own place on the horizon, building
their own lighthouse, and thus owning their spot/destination in the world.
Once we truly understand this concept, grow internally, own our story, then can we
truly be fulfilled in life. This makes us better people, leaders, etc. Our goal is to shine
our light onto others, guide and protect them not with the intention of influencing them
to our horizon as the coast is too dangerous, we want to guide them to their own spot,
inspire their creativity, help them build their own lighthouse, and then install their light,
in which they now shed on the world, now eliminating more of the darkness.

4 年Powerful read Jim. It’s interesting that right now there seems to be light or dark. I don’t feel a lot in the middle. But let’s keep shining otherwise it’s hard to see any path forward. Right?
