The Lighthouse & a Cup of Coffee...

I was sitting at a coffee shop discussing, of all things…. the lighthouse

The light house is really quite insignificant and no one gives it a second thought. Sometimes, not even the first though….It's importance is felt only by it's absence. A ship in a storm relies on the lighthouse to give it direction. After the storm has passed the ship doesn’t pay too much attention to it. But in a storm lighthouse becomes a Lighthouse… to guide the ship away from the rocks destruction is certain for the ship. And that’s when the absence of the lighthouse is felt. There are so many things, people in life, whose importance is felt only in their absence. The lighthouse never gets any acknowledgement. It just does its job of being of service. And does so day after day…

And as I was drinking the cup of coffee, I had another epiphany… I recognized that I could enjoy the coffee only because of the cup if there were no cup there would be no coffee for me. And I can have the best brand of coffee its aromatic flavor is not available to me unless there is a cup. I don’t pay any attention to the cup I don’t even care about it. It becomes important only in its absence, much like the lighthouse.

There are so many things in life whose importance is not noticed until their absence. They themselves don’t care for acknowledgement they are busy being who they are supposed to be. How would it be if I, like the cup and the lighthouse did bother about acknowledgement and just went on being what I was meant to be. How would my beingness shift? And like the Lighthouse/Might-house or the coffee cup what transformations could I bring about?
