Realigning the Purpose

For The Lighthearted :) COVID Days..

Day 1 of COVID Lockdown - Life comes full circle, a new trajectory into uncharted path.. all of you thinking about why I am doing what I am doing? Is this my purpose? Do I have a role in the scheme of things that the nature has planned. Turn on the TV after hectic day of work from home and see 21-Day unprecedented lock down in India. Well read in history books about the blackouts during war time be it 1918-20 or 1943-45 or during the Indo-Pak wars never experienced the same in the territory and here we go unseen enemy locking us down for 21-Days flat. I mean as a developer to heart few things that came to everyone's mind is can I program this change it debug and rewind it well the answer is no. It will have to be re-written. The purpose will have to be re-charted. For the future generations something new will need to be shown the way. Outside the daily chores we need to think a bit hard.

Having worked at Healthcare facility and very closely seen how a software can make or break the emergency situation, having seen how a small piece of algorithm can crack radiology diagnosis for a doctor saving his hrs. of time. For all the developer community this is a time of reckoning. We need to sharpen our saws and re-orient ourselves to be able to stay meaningful in the crisis.

All of thou Managers and Leaders when have we built a software facility to scale in flat 10 days, well how different it will be to building a hospital with all high touch equipment's. Is there any parallel? Having said and done we may need to find our place in the purpose in current situation for sure.

Over and above all how to deal with the emotions of your family your young kids and your team nothing is the normal and we as leads of the generation have to rewrite this with confidence now.

The last sentence of your note says it all Sarang Deshpande. Somehow brothers and sisters of this world are worried about their rights than responsibilities they shoulder. Our children inherit the world we create; let us do it with responsibility, care and compassion. Time to introspect duties and purpose of our lives and give back for the wonderful opportunity we have had. Thanks for penning this.
