On a lighter note

Hello Everyone,

Ahh It is That New Off Day.

Sunday, the day to take in some Sun.

For too long Friday has been the off day, so am still not used to the idea that Sunday is the official day off. It needs rewiring of the neurons.

Hope you all are having a great weekend.

On a Lighter Note

I have been thinking about setting a day each week for lighter banter because global issues are heavy on the mind and we mere mortals have little if any role in shaping them except writing and trying to make a case for peace.?

When the whole world is only drama in various forms, it is Humour to the rescue to retain some sanity in a world that is fast becoming insane without even realising it is becoming so.

So every Sunday I will attempt to write something on a lighter note that will make you smile & laugh.

Here is today’s Lighter Note.

Snubbing the Queen

It is reported that Prince Harry is not going to attend the memorial service for the late Prince Philip and the media is citing it as a snub to the Queen.

Whatever may be the circumstances that make him miss the service, whether its the security concerns & related costs (Once you drink Capitalism's Cool-Aid, one starts doing serious accounting of incoming and outgoings) or growing schism in family relationships etc.?etc., If family members don't disagree and have differences then who does?

Am not the ideal person to give advice about being a good son / family person as I have not been one as I spent most of my adult life away from my family.?

But I will take the liberty to advise Prince Harry to be a gentleman and find time and not miss the service whatever may be the reasons because it is one of those special family moments plus on a lighter note his famous granny is rich and when time comes she would be generous in her will to cover security & travel costs. Hahaha?

Am sharing the Lyrics of this Song “Cat’s in the Cradle”, by Harry Chapin for Prince Harry & for all of us in the world who are short on time to attend to important things. Do Reflect.

I learnt about it from a post by Engr. Abdulrahman Sager from Saudi Arabia who shared it in his Linkedin post talking about the importance of parents and balancing your career.

The moving lyrics of this song are a reminder to all people; grown up men & women, teenage boys and girls, fathers & mothers, sons & daughters, brothers and sisters, of the important things in life which we often ignore in the hustle & bustle of life or due to petty reasons.?

Unless circumstances really really forbid one should not ignore one’s responsibilities towards one’s kids, parents & grand parents, brothers & sisters, because what you sow is what you reap.

It is the law of nature.

Do Note your children watch how you deal with your parents and others and when they grow they will pay you back in the same coin.

Lyrics of Cat’s in the Cradle

My child arrived just the other day

He came to the world in the usual way

He learned to walk while I was away

And he was talking before I knew it, and as he grew

He'd say "I'm gonna be like you, dad"

"You know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon

Little boy blue and the man in the moon

"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when"

But we'll get together then

You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day

He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play

Can you teach me to throw, I said-a, not today

I got a lot to do, he said, that's okay

Well, he came from college just the other day

So much like a man I just had to say

Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?

He shook his head, and then said with a smile

What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys

See you later, can I have them please?

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon

Little boy blue and the man in the moon

"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when"

But we'll get together then, dad

You know we'll have a good time then

I've long since retired, my son's moved away

I called him up just the other day

I said, I'd like to see you if you don't mind

He said, I'd love to, dad, if I can find the time

You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kids have the flu

But it's sure nice talking to you, dad

It's been sure nice talking to you

And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me

He'd grown up just like me

My boy was just like me

I share things and I don't like to preach anything.?

But I urge all to Reflect on the above lyrics and get your act right by doing the right thing if you are failing in doing so.

Because one day Time will say I don't have Time

So when you have time don't say I don't have time for Essentials.

Coming back to Snubbing the Queen

I have come to admire the Queen, but I think am too snubbing the Queen inadvertently in some way by not sticking to the proper rules of English Language which her forefathers worked hard to develop & share it with the world. hahaha?

In my writings on Linkedin I don’t follow the rules of English such as appropriate punctuation & grammar.

One reason is it is social media where all rules are thrown out of the window, plus I love the free flow style of writing as it is therapeutic instead of the concise style of writing. Linkedin posts have word/character limits that often make me remove punctuation & am writing for few grown up adults only for whom a different perspective adds value and who can decipher the meaning of what am writing without proper punctuation too.

Am sharing a long held secret, may be am short on English Grammar coz I never understood why Put will be Put, Put, Put in all forms past present and future and many such eccentricities of English Language for which there are no reasonable justifications.

When I write academically, I pay attention to basics and I use tools to perfect it as it is essential.

Another reason for the indifference in following basic rules of English is to Protest British Colonialism in India and for British failure to leave behind a large number of native English speakers in India to teach proper English. I did all my schooling in English but it is only when I came of age and went to college and started reading newspapers I managed to get some good hold of it. English is not my mother tongue so the world has to bear with me, my transgressions.

Lastly, on social media where images of cats, agony aunt stories and emotional drama sells as we are currently witnessing instead of substance and when the world is going through so much of turbulence, I say who cares about punctuation and grammar.?

People, when you put up with so much of non sense that goes on in the world cant you put up with my lack of punctuation & grammar. How unfair?

If you promise to stop putting up with non sense and make the world a better place, I promise to stop writing without following rules of English.

It’s a deal. Your choice.
