Folks need to be honest with themselves: motivation is hard.
Some days it can feel easy to jump out of bed and knock out all of the day's problems with energy and fire!
Other days, fatigue and exhaustion can get the best of a person's mood, distractions come up, plans get derailed and motivation goes right out the window.
Even if all goals, intentions, and desires are clear, motivation can, at times, be rather difficult to manage.
However...
Not all hope is lost! Difficult does?not?equal impossible!
Understand what the mindset and (lack of) motivation is trying to communicate!
The lack of drive to put time and effort towards future goals can come from mental roadblocks:
- Fear of failure
- Intimidated by the unknown
- Self-doubt about one's dreams
- Afraid of the challenge
- Avoiding commitment
- Hanging onto the comfort of the present
Luckily, with some perseverance, all of these can be conquered!
Mental barriers can be broken down by keeping everything in perspective, and trying these strategies to trick one's brain into keeping the motivation fire alive!
Stay positive daily
Every day is a new day. All of the success, as well as the failures of the previous day are reset.
Success must be planned and executed every day.
A positive mindset is critical to this and must be spoken into existence.
Constant negativity will not stand a chance if overwhelmed by a positive mindset.
Avoid online and in-person toxicity to relieve negativity; reading motivational quotes, listen to inspirational audiobooks, and consciously thinking positive thoughts regardless of what is going on at the moment can be profoundly powerful!
Motivation dies at the hand of bad habits
One needs to be put themselves in a situation that facilitates motivation. A situation of success requires one to take care of themselves.
Not being well-rested, having no quiet place to focus, not having a consistent schedule, etc. can ruin one's ability to start work on their goals.
These struggles are all a result of a set of habits.
Habits, like mindsets, can always be changed with a bit of routine and consistency.
Soon enough, with some work, getting motivated becomes less difficult over time!
Focus On Rewards
While goals are nice, any goal worth stressing over is likely something that requires commitment, is ambitious, long-term, and difficult.
People are hard-wired, as a survival instinct, to seek out instant gratification to meet their immediate needs.
This is part of what makes goal-chasing so difficult to feel motivated about consistently, as it is far removed from the present and satisfaction is not immediate.
Instead, one can stay motivated by looking forward to what rewards and life improvements come with achieving an ambitious goal!
Exhausted with school? Think about a new career and its opportunities.
Working out and losing weight? The reward is a healthier body and self-confidence.
Studying to change careers? Imagine the longer vacations.
Goals are easier (and more fun) to visualize!
Motivation is the engine that will take one to their goals; it is up to the person to keep the engine running!
