There Will Be Light (Part Two)
Isaac Dixon, PhD. SHRM-SCP
Executive Vice President and Interim Chief People Officer
Good day everyone.
As the news from Brussels came in this morning I could not help but think back to a post I authored here following the attacks in Paris. In that post I wrote that the forces of evil will be overcome through sheer persistence of will and valuing freedom and liberty.
Nothing that happened today has changed those thoughts for me. The belief that you can scare people who do not agree with your version of reality into submission has never worked. History provides us with plenty of examples. Let me cite just two if I may.
The British, during the Second World War demonstrated what happens when you attempt to terrorize people into submission. They fought for their lives against the tyranny of Nazism and prevailed.
The life of Nelson Mandella is a testament to faith in what is right has in confronting the forces of oppression and hate. He and those who followed him opposed a state constructed on the belief that some people were human beings and others not. In the end Mandella not only prevailed but ushered in a government based upon reconciliation and progress in moving forward.
The days ahead will be difficult and trying for all of us. It is why it is so important that today as we offer our prayers to all of those impacted by the horrific acts that took place in Brussels we also know this. We are at war with some people who cannot or will not acknowledge modernity or progress. That is their choice but they cannot be permitted to make that choice for anyone else. Living as free people means not changing what we do or who we are in the pursuit of safety.
We will prevail of that I have no doubt.
Executive Vice President and Interim Chief People Officer
