Light, Learn, Wear & Help: October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day
Dr. Michaelene Fredenburg
Global expert on grief after pregnancy loss and reproductive loss.
1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, but culturally these - and other types of pregnancy and reproductive losses - are often underestimated or ignored. Sadly, this kind of grief can end up marginalized and hidden, often?unresolved for years?–?even decades.
?Everyone knows someone who has been impacted by pregnancy and reproductive loss.?Most don’t know what to say or do to help. Meanwhile, those impacted often silently wonder if everyone has completely forgotten their child.
“Light, Learn, Wear, Help” on October 15th
October 15th, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, is your opportunity to bring up this sensitive and often painful topic with loved ones, or to memorialize your own loss.
Not sure how??Life Perspectives?offers these 4 steps for memorializing a loss and showing support to those impacted: “Light, Learn, Wear, Help,”
1.??????Light: Lighting a candle is the easiest way to take a moment out of your day to memorialize a pregnancy or reproductive loss. While the candle is lit, perhaps say a few words to the baby that was lost, or just take a few moments to silently reflect. Perhaps burn the candle throughout October 15th, or let it go out on its own.
2.??????Learn: Life Perspectives offers courses for anyone who may want to better help those impacted by pregnancy and reproductive loss. Our next live webinar, “Reproductive Grief Care: Creating a Safe Place,” takes place on November 9th at 10:00 a.m. PT.

3.??????Wear:?The “Forget Me Not” flower symbolizes to those impacted that we are remembering them, and remembering their children with them.?Wear your “Forget Me Not” flower to show support for those impacted, or to open the door to a conversation about your own loss. To make it easy to wear a “Forget Me Not” flower during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, we offer?“Forget Me Not” pins on our site, both as?traditional pins?and?magnetic pins,?as part of our?“Forget Me Not” Signature Collection?of?memorial and remembrance?items. Wear the “Forget Me Not” pin on clothes, purses, and, for medical professionals, on ID badges or lab coats.
?4.??????Help: There are two easy ways to help on October 15th.
One way to help is by sending?sympathy cards?to anyone impacted by pregnancy or reproductive loss. Life Perspectives also offers?sympathy cards, all featuring a “Forget Me Not” flower, in our?“Forget Me Not” Signature Collection.
?The second way to help is by?donating?to Life Perspectives. As experts in grief care for pregnancy and reproductive loss, we’re helping those impacted, through our healing resources, research, and training of healthcare professionals. If you love our work, and want to help us, please visit our?Donate?page. Your donation – of any size – has a bigger impact than you know!
