The Light

The Light

Today's devotional is from Your Life Matters: Daily Devotionals from the Psalms

"The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants" - Psalm 104:2-4.

First, notice how beautifully these verses are written. They create a vivid picture of a powerful God who uses nature, His creation, as part of His transportation system. For us, nature can be an awesome experience, but for God, it is His playground. Second, the psalmist mentions light, and light is a favorite word or theme in John's gospel, starting in the first chapter: "In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1:4-5).

Yet, it wasn't just that John wrote about the light to describe Jesus, but Jesus also said it about Himself: "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life'" (John 8:12). Therefore, light for guidance and understanding should never be a problem for you to find if you follow the Lord and keep your ways in the light.

Are you walking in the light? Do you expect to find God's will easily or do you think God is playing hide-and-seek with you, playing hard-to-get? Also, do you ever stop to admire nature and worship the Lord for its beauty and majesty?
