Light Inspirations
Dear Friends of Photonics,
the year is off to a fast start?and so are we! From breakthroughs in TIRF microscopy to a new era in precision glass molding, we’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Plus, a look behind the scenes at asphericon - from global industry events to saying goodbye to a valued team member.

From gaussian to flat-top: A smarter approach to TIRF
In TIRF microscopy, achieving uniform illumination isn’t just about shaping the beam - it’s about maintaining that shape across the working distance. A precisely controlled beam improves contrast and minimizes distortions, helping researchers obtain reliable results. Using advanced production techniques, we create optics that optimize wavefront quality, ensuring consistent performance even in demanding applications.
What makes the difference? Our data-driven manufacturing process. By continuously monitoring key parameters during production, we achieve exceptional surface quality and minimal wavefront distortion. This level of precision ensures that the transformed beam remains stable and uniform over long distances - critical for high-resolution imaging.

Redefining precision: A breakthrough in glass molding
After four years of collaboration, we’re excited to share a breakthrough in precision glass molding. Together with the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences of and the TOPTEC Research Centre, asphericon s.r.o. has developed an advanced molding system that redefines accuracy and efficiency.
Key innovations include:
? A unique molding device for high-precision optics
? Advanced mold correction technology

? A powerful algorithm that simulates the entire glass molding process
The result? A cost-effective system that delivers lenses with exceptional shape accuracy and surface quality. This project showcases the impact of expertise, teamwork, and persistence. A big thank you to the entire team - especially Ond?ej Matou?ek , Karolina Sedlá?ková , Martin Vesely , and many others - for their dedication. Special thanks to the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic for their invaluable support!
Behind the Aspheres
What happened behind the scenes at asphericon?
Our journey into 2025 has already brought exciting opportunities to connect with the global photonics community.
The who’s who of the photonics world gathered once again at Photonics West in San Francisco - 1300 exhibitors, 5000 presentations, and endless opportunities to network. Our colleagues Silvio Vater , Steffen Schneider and Luká? Vesely were right in the middle of it, showcasing our latest innovations and diving into deep discussions with industry leaders. A week full of tech, trends, and teamwork!
Meanwhile, back in Jena, we said goodbye to a true asphericon veteran: Stefan Roehl . Thirteen years ago, he started as a student, taking his first steps in our world of optics. Fast forward to today, and he’s led a team of over 50 people! His journey is a prime example of how careers can grow within asphericon. Thank you, Stefan, for your dedication and we wish you all the best on your next adventure!
