Do you ever wonder why we leave a light on when darkness falls? It is reassuring when you are coming home and see the glow. As a child, I associated it with warmth, comfort, a hot meal, and a soft bed.

Mom called me her wayward son and told me she would always leave a light on and keep a place set at the table for me. I guess home is always a light in the darkness, a safe haven for the night.

If we think of a happy place, of an image that evokes the sense of protection and relaxation, of a refuge, the first thought will certainly go to the house. For this reason we invest our time to make the house our refuge.
