Lifting weights and training is fantastic.

However, simply moving and regularly throughout the day is underrated.

Don’t justify sitting on your ass all day because you spent 45 minutes at the gym this morning.?

Moving often can add up and drastically impact you reaching your goals.?

  • You burn, on average, 300-400 calories by walking 10,000.

Most of the energy we use for physical activity during the day is not from planned training.

But it’s not just about burning calories.

Studies have demonstrated that replacing sitting with light-intensity walking improves glucose control after food consumption.

Tight control of glucose is essential for brain health and metabolic function, and there is an association between the number of steps and all-cause mortality.

Jayedi et al. (2021) recently published a study showing that each 1000 daily steps increment is associated with a 12% lower risk of all-cause mortality.?

Trying to hit 10-15k steps is quite an ask, but as the authors say, even a modest increase in steps per day may be associated with a lower risk of death.

I find it’s easiest to do things that necessarily involve some movement but aren’t explicitly moving for its sake. Hobbies like cooking or gardening involve standing up and moving around without thinking about it too much.

Absolutely agree, move more, feel better. I always try to break up my day of sitting in the office after every 45mins. Sometimes it does admittedly go longer than 45, but the point is I try.
