Lifting weights in a fasted state can lead to muscle loss


There are laws to the way how the body burns energy.

And there is no exception to these rules.

When you’re lifting weights, your body will require energy to burn.

There are 3 ways your body will do that, and they go in this exact priority.

1. Your body will burn glucose (carbs)

2. Your body will use backup reverses which are glycogen

If you’re exercising fasted, your body has no glucose.

So it goes directly to get some glycogen.

After your glycogen is gone, your body will need another energy sources.

And as many guys may think, it’s NOT fat.

It takes 5-6h for your body to mobilize and metabolize fat.

Unless you’re working out for that long, you won’t be burning fat.

So there’s one more energy source it can use.

Lean muscle mass.

It takes 3 minutes to mobilize lean muscle mass.

So if you’re hitting the gym 3-5x a week fasted for an hour, where do you think you’re getting energy from?

You’re burning your own lean muscle mass.

It’s part of why you see marathon runners being so skinny.

They spend a lot of time getting energy from their own muscle mass.

Many of you reading this want to lose fat.

So if you want to lose bodyfat then you want to exercise in a way that burns bodyfat.

And the best way to achieve this is to protect your lean muscle mass.

Your lean muscle mass is the metabolic currency of your body.

The more muscle mass you have, the more fat you’ll burn at rest.

It’s why my clients never work out fasted.

Either they have very specific carbs and protein before the workout.

Or if they get up at 4-5am and can’t eat prior, at least they have some amino acids to avoid muscle mass.

As you can see, what you DON’T do is just as important as what you do when it comes to getting six pack lean.

It’s these many, many small details that all add up which either accelerate your results or slow you down for months, years or even decades when missed out.
