It could be said that learning is the key to success for both organisations and individuals.
An organisation that demonstrates its commitment to learning means that it wants to develop and grow its people and attract the right kind of people. Knowledge is a critical asset that, while contained in the learner's minds, helps drive innovation and excellence
Evidence shows that lifelong learning has immense benefits. From a personal perspective, these include increased self-worth and feeling more fulfilled. Other benefits include improved social standing, personal development, improved health and life satisfaction. Also, findings suggest that learners have a greater sense of purpose, and links have been found between completing learning and the delay of dementia.
I wonder what triggered your desire to learn more? For me, it was a life event (approaching 40) that prompted me to start an open university course in psychology. I could easily have said now is not the right time, especially with a new baby. I could have also used the excuse of having three other children and two jobs. But I understood that learning is an essential part of life, and I also understood the benefits of being a lifelong learner.
It really is never too late to learn a new skill, and there is no perfect time to start. The time will pass anyway, so today is as good as day as any.
This week is National Learning at work week. What better time to start making an investment in yourself or, if you are an organisation committed to learning, an investment in your employees.
At Ligtas, our focus is naturally on health and safety training. We offer everything from basic eLearning awareness courses like DSE assessment and fire safety awareness to accredited courses like the NEBOSH Diploma.
Why is health and safety training important?
Consider the following statistic. In 2020/2021, 60 members of the public were killed because of a work-related accident (source HSE). That's 60 too many.

We believe that everyone should go home after work each day uninjured.
The first step is choosing the right course, and that's often the toughest part. It can get a little overwhelming trying to make the right choice. You'll need to consider why this course? Is it for your current situation or to support future growth? Do you need accredited training? And what is your budget? (see funding options below)
But by far, the most important question to ask yourself is what's the end goal. Goals are vital in continued development, both professionally and personally. Thinking of goals is equally important for organisations. What will having trained professionals give you?
At Ligtas, we can help you achieve your organisational and personal learning goals, and our professional, trusted trainers can help.
Many of our trainers are NEBOSH and Diploma examiners, which gives them insights into the examining bodies' requirements. And Finally, for those wondering, yes, I am still completing my course in psychology. This is despite all the challenges of a pandemic, home-schooling, working from home whilst amusing a feral toddler. Year 3 is almost done; am I glad I started…absolutely. It's felt impossible at times, and there have been lots of tears and tantrums from me, not the toddler!
But somehow, I have made it work. I understand the bigger picture and appreciate that I have this opportunity. I have learned so much, and my confidence and self-esteem have also grown. You only have one life; challenge yourself. Don't let life challenges put you off. Start something today that you'll be proud of tomorrow.
