Ever feel like you’re on a financial hamster wheel? You’re running, earning, and hustling… but when you look around, the house, the car, and that dreamy vacation are still out of reach? Welcome to the club. It’s called Lifestyle Dysphoria, and we’ve got jackets (but not the designer ones we were hoping for).
Lifestyle Dysphoria is that sinking feeling when the life you thought you’d have doesn’t match up with the one your bank account is funding. You know, the one where you’re supposed to have it all because you’re "earning well." Turns out, "well" doesn’t go as far as it used to.
- The "Should Syndrome": "I should be able to afford a house by now!" Sound familiar? It’s the narrative we’ve been handed, but someone forgot to adjust it for inflation… and housing markets.
- Social Media Pressure: Where everyone else’s life looks like a highlight reel, and yours feels like a blooper reel.
- The Cost of “Success”: It turns out, the "nice car, nice house, nice vacation" package doesn’t come standard with your paycheck.
But hey, it’s not all doom and gloom! Lifestyle Dysphoria is a chance to rewrite the rules (and maybe laugh a little while we’re at it). Here’s how:
- Rethink the Dream: Who said success is about the vast house and the flashy car? Maybe it’s about building a life that’s authentically you. Do you know who you really are when it comes to money? So many of us are living in someone else's dream - or nightmare.
- Stop Comparing: Social media is basically everyone’s highlight reel with a filter. Your reality is way more impressive (and less staged). How many moments of joy have you had when it has not involved money or something that someone else has?
- Redefine Wealth: Forget flashy. True wealth is about feeling secure, happy, and free to live life on your terms. I run a program called My Money Makeover where we focus on all aspects of life and how we can balance them well. It includes how we think and feel about money along with learning how to be magnificent at managing it too.
- Join the Conversation Money doesn’t have to be heavy or scary (or involve spreadsheets… unless you’re into that). Let’s make it approachable and fun! If Lifestyle Dysphoria strikes a chord with you, let’s chat. Share your thoughts or message me directly—let’s figure out how to swap hamster wheels for meaningful paths.

1 个月Thankyou Fanny this really resonates with me at the moment:) My dream now is to not be stuck with a mortgage but have the freedom to move myself where I am needed best for my children and then where I want to be? rather than anchoring myself and money into bricks!

2 个月'Where everyone else’s life looks like a highlight reel, and yours feels like a blooper reel.' Haha! Brilliant! I'm actually a lot 'further forward' than I ever imagined I'd be, owing largely to a leap of faith 20 years ago when I moved to Portugal with my then-boyfriend-now-husband. We were able to use the equity from our tiny bungalow in the UK to purchase a couple of do-er uppers with outbuildings and have been mortgage-free ever since. However, 20 years later, we still haven't gotten around to decorating our lounge which remains the big blooper in my life... You'll never see a picture of my sitting room on my socials! ??
We have soooooo much to say on this topic, but for brevity: Comparison is the thief of joy.

2 个月I agree, I was thinking only this morning about this and what is true happiness. I’m quite excited about having a year completely based on not spending money on anything that just adds to tomorrow’s trip to the charity shop! I’m so tired of having anything more than required stuff ?? How great the work you’re doing to have people truly define their ‘wealth’ is!
