On May 1, 2023, Tim Spence was named the firm’s CEO. In his nearly 10-year career at BSA, Tim has served the firm in various roles as National Healing Practice Director and helped co-launch the Raleigh, North Carolina studio on his arrival at BSA in 2015.?In our conversation, Tim shares insight on vision casting, how to bring multiple disciplines together, leveraging resources across multiple locations, and what BSA looks for in future employee-owners.?

Purdue’s College of Engineering and Polytechnic Institute (PPI) are experiencing a high rate of rapid growth and being geographically separated on campus. To support the growth, the first facility in the new Engineering and Polytechnic Gateway Complex will be Lambertus Hall and Dudley Hall, one of Purdue’s largest complexes on campus. The new 251,191-square-foot facility will house interdisciplinary instructional space, design studios for senior and capstone projects, collaborative spaces supporting active learning, and administrative office space. As the first for any university in the nation, this building will feature virtual labs on an extensive scale.

When the pandemic struck, it forced people and organizations into a new way of operating. With physical interactions no longer available, the virtual meetings brought into stark detail the differences between relational and transactional interactions and their impact on creativity and production. The steep learning curve meant people adapted, but what began as something temporary turned into something more revolutionary, changing the physical nature of work, not just the operational. The pandemic changed what people expect from work. Reflecting that change means shaping an office that addresses those needs on a human level.
