Life's Tough Lessons Make Us Stronger

I have said many times over the last decade that I don't regret the tough times I have been through. Not the injuries, the poverty and homelessness...none of it. The hard lessons learned playing football is what prepared me to conquer huge obstacles in my later life. If I didn't go through it I wouldn't be the husband, father and business owner I'am today. It was hardship that brought me to know Jesus Christ. It was the hardship that taught me how to love. It was also the hardship that taught me perseverance.

If you ever had the opportunity to watch a blacksmith work you'll see him forge the fire, and thrust that steel into the hottest flame. He'll take out the steel and pound and pound, thrust back into the fire, pound it again. Once he's got it...he thrusts the steel into the water to cool it fast subjecting the steel from one extreme to another. When he's done subjecting it to the extremes he then begins to polish to perfection. sometimes I see life a lot like that. We are forged by life into the people we are today. Your ability to withstand the fire of life...will inevitably make something beautiful.

Today one of our amazing female sports writers at TexasHSFootball.com, Payton Smith reminded me of all of the good that comes out of the game of football. Her perspective is uniquely interesting, and her perception of the game is right on the money.
