Life’s Changes Are Challenging But You Can Do It
Navigating life’s changes can be difficult.
Today, I want to look at a small fallacy in our thinking about life’s changes — namely that they are out of the ordinary.
The fact is that our lives are in constant change and flux. And here?are two quotations, both from Heraclitus, to illustrate my point.
There is nothing permanent except change.
You cannot step into the same river twice.
Heraclitus, 535-475 BC
Life’s changes are constant.
We are always in transition, and most of the time, we just don’t know it. When we wake up, we transition into our day. When we leave the house, we transition into the world, and vice versa. We are always in a state of change.
Permanence is actually the illusion.
When we realize and assimilate this, we give ourselves the space to respond to life’s changes. We accept them and learn that we don’t have to experience them as unhappy upheavals.
The more we expect and accept flux and fluidity, the less disorienting it will be.
So, how do you respond to change when it presents itself to you?? How do you feel about its constancy? And what might you do differently, starting today?
