Life of Studio

Lets start 2017 with what I think is the most important item on any agency or studio list. BACKUP!

We all know how important our work is as well as our machines. To lose this is devastating, you are speaking to someone who has lost work on a server. To replace or do the work over is a nightmare.

For the past 30 years, since that time I have never ever lost work as I backup on different platforms.

iCloud, External HD's, Timemachine

On top of all this I still keep backups offsite and onsite. What are the benefits of using Time Machine? Well for one, you can restore an entire machine within 2hrs. I have a work in progress folder inside of my internal hard drive. This is faster working straight from the Internal HD as oppose to the server.

As a public Beta tester for Apple, the biggest reason for using Time Machine is that it allows me to install beta systems. What this does is, if the application isn't working I can restore to the old system and continue running after lunch. As if nothing happened!

Death of Studio

This is vital when you would like to have a studio running at its best. It is best to have the proper applications and machine to allow the studio to run at top efficiency.

With research and usage I have and will claim that a Fusion Drive is better than SSD. However the SSD is much faster. This I will leave to you, but price and size is in favor of the Hybrid Drive as well as longevity.

For example: An optical machine for any studio should be 27" not 21" & a minimum of 16GB ram. Your machine could run sufficiently on 8GB ram, however only if you're the average Joe checking emails & using Word Doc.

Apps. Well there is a long list, but of course always use up to date software. Never use old software! This could bring huge design and repro consequences... for compatibility and type run off. Every machine should have its own external separate from a server. Thus, it will back-up the entire machine without bottle necking a sever and other users.

Time Capsule should be used on a smaller scale or for SME businesses. Due to the fact that it will be discontinuing, findings show the bandwidth constrains speed for users.

Last but not the least Suitcase Fusion 6-7 or some form of Font Management Application must be used, if not this could lead to your machine crashing & freezing.
